I believe that voters should know as much as possible about their candidates, to choose the run for Sheriff, as you're acting as a hiring comittee, choosing who you believe is the best candidate. I am proud to share with you my work history, so you can see my qualifications for this position.
I graduated from Weber State University in 1996 with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology.
I was hired by the Utah Department of Correction in October of 1996 and started the Fred House Correction Academy for certification to work in a half way house. I graduated in January of 1997 and was assigned to a halfway house in Salt Lake City. I was promoted to Probation and Parole Officer in June of 1997 and attended the POST Academy in July of 1997. I graduated from POST in October of 1997 and was assigned to a Probation and Parole case load in Davis County. I supervised a case load and was assigned to the Davis County Narcotic Strike Force.
In August of 2000 I transferred to the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division under the authority of the Utah State Tax Commission. The Department was commissioned to do Auto Theft Investigations, Vehicle Registration Enforcement, Vehicle Title Fraud, Odometer Fraud, No Insurance violations and we regulated the automobile sales industry along with crushers, dismantlers and body shops.
I was promoted to Sergeant in 2003, Lieutenant in 2010, Director/Colonel in 2016 and Senior Law Enforcement Director of the Utah State Tax Commission in 2023. I was able overcome a lot of controversy by staying true to my values and working hard. I successfully filed some of the most complex fraud cases during my tenure and was respected by the industry in which I regulated. I helped set up the Salt Lake Auto Theft Strike Force and with the assistance of many local agencies we made a big impact on auto theft arrests and prosecution in the valley. I retired from the State of Utah Law Enforcement on January 1, 2025.
